Merge Up 2 Slot Review
Pastel gems fill a 6x6 board, and the moment four of them touch, something odd happens: part of the group vanishes while the rest climbs one step up a colour ladder. That is the whole idea behind the Merge Up 2 slot, the October 2025 sequel to BGaming's cluster game Merge Up. Wins upgrade symbols instead of simply clearing them, cells that keep paying build multipliers, and rainbow bombs blow holes in the grid. Merge Up 2 also lowers the free spins trigger to three scatters and adds three ways to buy the bonus. The pace is quick, the variance is very high, and the board rarely sits still for long.
Theme & Design
The original Merge Up carried a futuristic theme; the sequel goes pastel. The gems are glossy and rounded, the background is calm, and the effects are kept clean enough that you can follow every merge with your eyes. BGaming said it built the sequel with a streaming analytics partner, using viewer feedback from the first game, and the simpler visuals are one visible result of that work.
The rainbow bombs are the loudest element on screen, and they are meant to be: they mark the moments when the board changes most. If you like how BGaming handles mood and colour but want a moonlit, more traditional reel layout, the Lady Wolf Moon demo shows the studio's other side.
RTP, Volatility & Hit Frequency
On our platform Merge Up 2 runs at 97% RTP with very high volatility, which is a generous return paired with a swingy ride. The provider lists a hit frequency of 1 in 3.40 spins, so small cluster wins are common, while natural free spins arrive about once every 409 spins on average.
| Spec | Value | Note |
| Win rule | 4+ adjacent matching symbols | Clusters, no fixed lines |
| Symbol ladder | 9 gem levels | The Scatter works as level 10 |
| Cell multiplier start | x2 | A marked cell that wins again |
| Cell multiplier cap | x128 | Doubles with every new win in that cell |
| Bomb blast | 8 surrounding cells | The Bomb then becomes a Scatter |
| Free spins | 12 / 15 / 20 / 30 | For 3 / 4 / 5 / 6+ Scatters |
| Retrigger | +5 spins | 3+ Scatters during free spins |
| Hit frequency | 1 in 3.40 spins | Provider figure |
| Free spins frequency | 1 in 409 spins | Natural trigger, provider figure |
| Bonus buy | 3 options | Standard, x2 cells, or 3 to 9 Bombs |
Those two frequency figures explain the feel of the game. Small wins come around regularly, roughly every third or fourth spin, yet the session's real value sits in a round you might not see for several hundred spins.
Merging & Cell Multipliers
Every win starts the same way. Four or more matching gems connect, the cluster pays according to its level and size, and then some of its symbols disappear while others upgrade to the next tier. New gems drop into the gaps, and if the upgraded pieces now complete a fresh cluster, the chain continues.
Each winning position gets marked. Hit that cell again and its next win carries x2; every further win there doubles it, up through x4, x8 and on to x128. When one cluster covers several marked cells, their multipliers add together. In the base game the marks clear when the spin ends, which is the main thing the free spins change. Bombs come from clusters near the top of the ladder. One explodes, removes the eight symbols around it, pushes every affected cell's multiplier one step higher (x2 becomes x4), and then turns into a Scatter. A single blast can therefore boost the board and edge you closer to the bonus in the same moment.
How It Compares to the Rest of the Series
Six Merge Up titles sit in our lobby, and the split is clear: the two early releases share a 5,000x cap, while everything from this sequel onward doubles it or more. All figures below come from each game's own page here.
| Game | RTP | Max Win | Volatility | Release |
| Merge Up | 97.25% | 5,000x | High | 2023 |
| Lucky 8 Merge Up | 97.25% | 5,000x | High | 2024 |
| Merge Up 2 | 97.00% | 10,000x | Very High | 2025 |
| Sugar Merge Up | 97.00% | 10,000x | Very High | 2026 |
| Merge Up Fury | 97.00% | 10,000x | Very High | 2026 |
| Bonanza Billion Merge Up+ | 97.04% | 15,000x | Very High | 2026 |
Against the original, the sequel gives up a quarter of a percentage point of RTP in exchange for twice the ceiling, base-game cell multipliers and an easier bonus trigger.
Merge Up 2 Bonus Features
Free Spins
Three Scatters start 12 free spins, four give 15, five give 20, and six or more give 30. Scatters can land on their own or appear from exploding bombs. The key difference from the base game is memory: cell marks and their multipliers stay on the board for the whole round, so a cell that reached x16 early keeps that value for every later win. Three or more Scatters during the round add five more spins.
Bonus Buy
You can buy straight into the feature at three levels. The first is the standard free spins round. The second starts every cell at x2, and the third seeds the board with three to nine Bombs whose multipliers carry into the bonus. If a long natural wait bores you, the higher tiers are the ones that front-load the multiplier build. Aztec Magic Bonanza is another BGaming release where the free spins carry most of the game's value, with an Aztec setting in place of a gem board.
Chance x2
This optional switch raises your bet slightly and improves your odds of triggering free spins. It cannot run at the same time as a bonus buy.
How to Play
Bets cover $0.25 through $25 per spin. Set your stake, decide whether Chance x2 is worth the extra cost, and spin. Watch the marked cells rather than the gems: a board full of x4 and x8 marks during free spins matters far more than any single cluster. The ceiling is 10,000 times your stake, which at the top bet means a cap of $250,000, and getting close to it realistically takes stacked cell multipliers inside the bonus. The demo is the best place to learn how fast those marks grow before risking a real balance.
Should You Play It
Yes, if you enjoy watching a board evolve. Merge Up 2 is one of the more readable cluster slots around: every upgrade, mark and blast is visible, and the free spins reward patience with multipliers that stick. The 97% RTP is strong, though very high volatility means long base-game stretches can drain a balance between bonuses. Skip it if you would rather spin classic reels with a familiar character. For that kind of session, BGaming's Elvis Frog TRUEWAYS is the better pick on BetFury, while Merge Up 2 suits players who would rather build a win than wait for one.
