Troll Hunters 2 Slot Review
The troll in the title never shows up in the base game of Troll Hunters 2. Most spins happen with three shield-maidens guarding a frozen 5x5 grid, and the ice troll only arrives once you break into the Win Spins bonus. Play'n GO released this sequel on 18 June 2020, seven years after the 2013 original, and kept its oddest rule: symbols pay in short straight lines rather than the big clusters most grid slots ask for. RTP on this page is 96.50%, wins are capped at 5,000x, and each of the three hunters changes how the bonus behaves. In Troll Hunters 2 the real prize sits behind a charge meter, so the base game is mostly about building toward it.
RTP, Volatility & Stakes
At the $0.20 minimum, 500 spins cost $100; at the $100 ceiling, a single spin does. That gap is the whole story of who this game suits, because the math is high volatility and the bonus is where the 5,000x cap lives. Expect stretches where the grid clears a line or two and little else happens.
The 96.50% return is a long-run figure spread across millions of rounds. Over a 200-spin session the meter and the bonus pick decide far more of your result than the RTP does.
| Spec | Value | Note |
| Grid | 5 reels x 5 rows | 25 symbols per spin |
| Winning combination | 3+ matching symbols in a horizontal or vertical line | Winners clear and the rest drop down |
| Maximum win | 5,000x the stake | Fixed cap, no jackpot |
| Bet range | $0.20 to $100 | Per spin |
| Volatility | High | Dry spells are normal |
| Release date | 18 June 2020 | Sequel to the 2013 original |
| Win Spins options | 9, 7 or 5 spins | Standard, x2 or x3 wilds |
How the Grid Pays
Each spin drops 25 symbols. A win needs three or more identical symbols side by side in a horizontal or vertical line, and the direction does not matter. Winning symbols vanish, the ones above slide down into the gaps, and a new line can form from the rubble.
Chained wins carry a small bonus of their own. Each extra win in the same sequence raises a win multiplier by one step, and the count returns to its starting value on the next paid spin, so a long cascade pays more at the end than at the start.
Three in a line is a low bar compared with Play'n GO's cluster grids such as the Reactoonz slot, which need larger groups of touching symbols. The trade is obvious once you play both: small wins tick over more often here, while the ceiling stays at 5,000x.
Symbols & Wilds
The paytable is short. Three warrior portraits sit at the top, and five pieces of Viking kit fill the lower rungs. The wilds are where the depth is, since four different types can appear.
| Symbol | Role | What it does |
| Three warrior portraits (red, blonde and black hair) | High pay | Wins with them also fill the charge meter |
| Horn, helmet, sword, hammer, axe | Low pay | Fill the grid and feed cascades |
| Odin | Standard wild | Takes the middle spot of a winning combination and substitutes for regular symbols |
| x2 and x3 wilds | Multiplier wilds | Scattered across the grid when the meter fills, by Borghild (x2) or Ylva (x3) |
| Troll | 2x2 wild | Win Spins only, carries the multiplier of the hunter you picked |
Theme & Design
Snow drifts across a mountain valley while one of the hunters, Ylva, Borghild or Astrid, stands beside the reels with her axe ready. The story is simple: the clan's raiders are away, and these three are left to hold off an ice troll that has troubled the village for generations.
The artwork is a full modern makeover of the 2013 game, from the falling snow to the hunter animations. Anyone who likes Play'n GO grids with a darker story can set it next to Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness, which swaps snow and axes for portals and eldritch horror.
Troll Hunters 2 Bonus Features
Charge Meter
Wins that include the hunter portraits fill a meter beside the grid. Once it is full, the hunter standing there scatters her wild type over the remaining symbols: Astrid drops standard wilds, Borghild drops x2 wilds, and Ylva drops x3 wilds. You cannot choose who stands there in the base game, so a full meter under Ylva is the best outcome a normal spin can produce.
Win Spins
Clear every symbol from one of the top three rows and the word BONUS shows through, which starts the Win Spins round. Before it begins you choose a hunter:
- Astrid: 9 spins with standard wilds
- Borghild: 7 spins with x2 wilds
- Ylva: 5 spins with x3 wilds
A rough way to compare them is spins multiplied by the wild value: 9 for Astrid, 14 for Borghild, 15 for Ylva. It is not an expected return, since the troll only appears when the meter fills, but it shows why Ylva is the swing pick and Astrid the patient one.
Troll Wild
During Win Spins the meter stops handing out multiplier wilds and starts awarding extra spins instead. It has five sections in the bonus. Each time it fills, a 2x2 Troll Wild lands in a random spot on the grid with your hunter's multiplier attached, and another spin is added to the round.
From the 2013 Original to the Sequel
The first Troll Hunters came out on 10 July 2013 with the same line-of-three rule, a wild left in the middle of cleared combinations, and a multiplier that climbed with every drop. The sequel keeps that engine and adds the meter, the hunter wilds and the pick-your-bonus round. Play'n GO's newest Norse grid, released in 2026, takes a very different route.
| Game | Released | Grid and pay rule | Max win | RTP here |
| Troll Hunters | 10 July 2013 | 5x5, lines of three | n/a | 96.69% |
| Troll Hunters 2 | 18 June 2020 | 5x5, lines of three or more, charge meter | 5,000x | 96.50% |
| Viking Runecraft 1000 | 25 August 2026 | 6x5, 8+ matching symbols anywhere, multipliers up to x1000 | 60,000x | 96.24% |
How to Play
Start in demo mode for 50 or 100 spins. The rules are simple, but the meter and the row-clearing trigger only make sense once you watch them fill a few times.
Set your stake with the plus and minus buttons, spin, and keep an eye on two things: which hunter stands beside the grid, and how close the top three rows are to empty. When the bonus lands, the hunter pick is the only real decision the game asks of you. If you fund your balance in Tron, our TRX casino page covers how deposits in that coin work before you switch to real stakes.
Pros
- Three in a line keeps small wins coming more often than most high-volatility grids
- The 9, 7 or 5 spin choice lets you set your own risk before the bonus
- Four wild types, including a 2x2 Troll Wild with a multiplier
- Wide stake range from $0.20 to $100
Cons
- The 5,000x cap is modest for a high-volatility game
- Base game can feel flat while the meter is far from full
- The bonus trigger depends on clearing a whole row, which can take a while
Worth the Spin
Troll Hunters 2 earns its spot if you like reading a meter and choosing your own risk before a bonus. The hunter pick is a real decision, and the 5,000x cap is honest about the ceiling rather than dangling a number the math rarely reaches. It is a weak fit if you want long free-spin runs or a reel set you can learn at a glance, and a classic 10-line game like Legacy of Dead suits that better. For everyone else, set a real-money stake you are comfortable repeating, spin until the rows start to clear, and take Ylva at least once to see what those x3 trolls can do.
